Three-time Olympic gold medallist, Gabby Douglas is an American artistic gymnast, noted for her trailblazing performances in individual all-around and team competitions. In 2012, she was named female athlete of the year for her landmark sporting achievements.

As a member of the USA women’s national gymnastics team in the 2012 Summer Olympics, Douglas won gold in both the individual and all-around competitions, becoming the first African American and the first of African descent in Olympic history to do so at the same Olympics.

Douglas’ successes have been shared with the world in the biopic film, The Gabby Douglas Story, her own reality TV series Douglas Family Gold, and her bestselling autobiography Grace, Gold & Glory: My leap of faith.

In Statues for Equality, Douglas is depicted in a magnificent blue orchid, a precious flower which symbolizes strength and vitality. Incredibly rare with their deep blue and violet blossoms, the petals symbolize Douglas’ different gymnastic disciplines that, along with her perseverance, made her a global superstar.
